IT Service Management and ITIL initiatives
ITin3D is an ideal tool to define and build a model of the IT function around the service concepts of itSMF and ITIL. The model captures all the financial information of the typical financial cost center and account approach, and then enables the user to assign these costs to the services that they are supporting, and then in addition to assign these services to the end customers who are consuming these services. Ultimately these measures form the basis to measure the performance of each service over time.
ITin3D is specifically designed to fulfill the needs of the CIO, the IT Controller, and the IT Management Team. In most organizations, this team is highly mobile and yet needs to have the entire view of IT at their fingertips at all times so as to coordinate cross functional activities and to deliver a consistent message to their IT constituents. The ITin3D solution for the IT Management team is to standardize the information and to distribute the application to each member's laptop or PC. By operating in this manner, the system can be implemented independently of any infrastructure or location constraints, thus enabling the managers to carry their information with them as they travel, make presentations, model new scenarios and evaluate IT performance. This distributed model is a low cost and easy to implement approach, as opposed to a central database approach. Each major area within a large organization can develop their own ITin3Dmodels and then consolidate them together for enterprise corporate viewing using Sharepoint for instance
ITin3D is designed around a highly distributed PC based model which enabIes it to be implemented in almost any combination of organizational structures. At its core is a central planning and management Data Room Due Diligence module which serves as the central point of definition for all resources, assets, projects and services, and the ultimate generation of the project, financial and chargeback budgets. Once this information is in place, there are various implementation approaches which can be used to best model the customer's unique organization structure and management style. The system is intentionally not designed around a large central database since many organizations are quite distributed and the management teams are very mobile. The Value Management module can be managed by a central IT Controller or it can be distributed to each key manager to empower them to define the value propositions for their own projects. The Resource Reporting module is designed to separately service each individual team in the organization. Each instance of the module handles a team of up to twenty persons (although this can be easily increased). This resource reporting information is fed back into the Service Level Management Module which can either service each individual reporting module or it can accept a larger consolidated set of reporting resources. The Organizational Alignment module can be centrally managed and distributed. The results of all the modules can be consolidated into the Graphic Dimensions module for general presentation.
ITin3D is especially designed for international organizations which need to consolidate multiple worldwide sites and to coordinate standards and projects around the world. It can consolidate various national reporting information and convert currencies to a common denomination so that a single global view of IT activities can be achieved. The result is to standardize and harmonize the goals, projects, resources and technology where appropriate and then to enable national flexibility where desired.
Organizations performing due diligence
ITin3D is perfectly suited to perform IT due diligence. It can capture the information quickly from multiple organizations, combine it together, and provide executive level reporting 'out of the box'. The data contained in the system is specifically designed around the data requirements of a due diligence exercise. Since there's little infrastructure impact to implement the system, a due diligence team can operate in a confidential environment. It makes sense to capture this information once since the same information is constantly requested to performs due diligence, outsourcing analyses, IT audits, management reporting and simply to benchmark an IT operation.
Medium and Small IT organizations
ITin3D is immediately suited for medium size IT organizations with a central IT unit of 100 persons or less with satellite organizations of smaller teams distributed around the country or world. This allows for a central planning and control function to be implemented by the CIO and IT Controller while empowering the individual teams around the world to manage their own affairs while closely coordinating at the appropriate level.
Large IT Organizations
Most large organizations consist of multiple business unit organizations and other various functional groups. ITin3D can be best implemented for each of these smaller internal organizations and then consolidated when ready at the corporate level with tools such as Sharepoint or into the company's BI environment. This enables a very flexible approach which doesn't require that the entire organization be moving at the same time and pace. ITin3d is an ideal tool for large organizations that need to consolidate information from multiple companies into a corporate view, for budgeting purposes for instance.
ITin3D can be used by an outsourcing organization as a means to clearly capture the business needs of the client organization and to come to clear agreements as to the priorities of the project portfolio, the cost basis of projects and the ownership and allocation of assets and resources. It can be viewed as a CRM system for IT service providers. The profitability of each service can be managed by tracking the actual cost of each services and the revenue generated by the service.
Consulting companies can use ITin3D as means to manage their own business and the relationship with their clients. It treats each resource as if they were either an internal staff member or an outside contractor which enables the system to be used by both as a service provider and the client.
Integration with Other Systems
ITin3D assumes that the customer has systems in place which need to be integrated with the ITin3D data. This includes personnel information, asset information, invoices and chargeback. There are standard interfaces built into the software so that consistency can be maintained across applications and efficiency can be achieved in data input. Since ITin3D is designed to provide high quality management presentations, it can be employed as the 'top of the pyramid' where other systems feed the base data and ITin3D becomes the communication vehicle of the IT message.
